What to expect during labor & delivery

Timing & arrival

At this time, for Labor & Delivery, two support persons are allowed to stay with the patient throughout the duration of your labor & delivery experience. In Maternity, one designated support person is able to stay with the patient until discharge, another visitor is allowed to visit during normal visitation hours.

Patients and visitors will be screened for COVID-19. If possible please identify who you have designated as your support person prior to arriving at the Hospital.

If you are in labor and arrive at White Plains Hospital between 5 a.m. and 12 a.m., enter through the Hospital's main entrance on Davis Ave. If you arrive after 12 a.m., please use the emergency room entrance.

Where to go

If you are scheduled for any event, be it cesarean section, induction or testing, please stop in the Admitting Office to register before proceeding to labor and delivery. Stopping at the Admitting Office is necessary for any patient scheduled for a test or medical procedure.

Once in labor and delivery, a clinical staff member will evaluate you and your unborn child in one of our private suites. A care plan will be developed that takes your input into consideration. The plan will describe the steps leading up to your delivery.
