Pregnant? Check out these ideas for telling your partner

Whether you've been trying for a while or this is a happy surprise, a new pregnancy is big news. And the first person you'll probably want to share that news with is your partner. However you choose to deliver the news is 100% up to you, mom-to-be, but if you'd like a little coaching and some fun ideas, we're here to help. Here are some of our favorite ideas for sharing the great news.

Take the straightforward approach. For some couples, straight talk is best. If you know your partner might not be up for a surprise, then consider sitting them down to deliver the news. You can talk about your excitement and fears together without feeling forced to make it an Instagrammable moment.

Seize the element of surprise. Sometimes the shock factor can be fun. If you think your significant other would appreciate that, then try something surprising—like leaving your positive pregnancy test in a spot you know your partner will see it.

Keep it lighthearted. This idea is fun and takes zero planning (a win-win for your first-trimester brain!). When you're ready to tell your partner, casually ask what he or she wants for Father's Day or Mother's Day this year.

Enlist the help of the kids. If you already have a little one, you can get him or her in on the fun. Get them a T-shirt that says future big brother or sister and have them wear it when your partner comes home. It's a cute way to get the entire crew in on the surprise.

However you decide to share the news, be prepared for the possibility that your partner might not initially react the way you expect. Even if your partner knew this news might be coming, it can still be a lot to take in. They may experience a mix of excitement and shock, so give it time to sink in before you ask how they're really feeling about your announcement.

You've told your partner: What about the rest of the world?

When should you share the great news with your broader circle of friends and family? Learn what to consider before making the big announcement
