Hand surgery

The hand and wrist surgery team offers the kind of the orthopedic expertise and experience, as well as access to the latest technology, that you have come to expect from White Plains Hospital.

We use the least invasive approach needed to treat your condition and control your pain, in an effort to help make your stay in the Hospital and your recovery as quick and efficient as possible.

Our hand and wrist care team is dedicated to working with you throughout the entire process, from pre-surgery to surgery and post-surgery treatment and therapy. We are committed to discussing the best plan to not only alleviate your pain; we also aim to restore normal function whenever possible. If an injury or accident does require an operation, our team will work to establish the underlying cause of the problem and then recommend the best course of treatment. We treat patients of all ages, from children to adults.

Procedures performed at the Hospital include:

  • Carpal tunnel surgery. Pressure on the nerve is released, relieving the pain, numbness and tingling sensations
  • Ganglion cyst surgery. Jelly-filled cysts that develop near joints or tendons in the wrist, hand and fingers can be removed
  • Rheumatoid arthritis surgery. Damaged tissue is removed from the joint, tendons and ligaments are repositioned, or the entire joint is replaced with a prosthetic
  • Arthritis surgery. Reconstructive procedures for arthritic conditions at the base of the thumb, wrist and fingers can eliminate pain and improve function
  • Dupuytren's contracture surgery. Thickened, abnormal tissue is removed to relieve contracted fingers and improve range of motion
  • Repair of torn ligaments. Tears in the hand and wrist, such as skier’s thumb, can be repaired to restore stability and strength
  • Trigger finger release. Common form of tendinitis in the hand that can be cured surgically by safely releasing the tight structure
  • Complex reconstructive procedures. Difficult and chronic problems of the hand and wrist can be treated with tendon, ligament, nerve and joint reconstruction
  • All types of fractures of the fingers, hand, wrist and forearm are repaired
  • Tendon lacerations and nerve injuries. Lacerations or injured tendons and nerves are repaired
  • Surgical removal of hand masses. Lumps, bumps, and tumors are removed surgically
  • Operative and non-operative treatment of children aged 2 and over.
