The smallest patients receive some of the greatest attention at White Plains Hospital.
Whether admitted through a specially designated pediatrics area in our Emergency Department, or directly from one of our many partner community pediatricians, we provide our youngest patients and their families with expert, compassionate and comprehensive care.
Pediatric patients at the Hospital are seen by a pediatric hospitalist, who stays in continuous communication with the referring pediatrician.
Parents are welcome to visit with their child at any time during the hospital stay in most cases and may also be able to stay overnight with their child while they are hospitalized.
Compassionate and expert pediatric surgical care
If your child needs a surgical procedure, our pediatric surgeons and nursing staff will do their best to make the experience as stress-free as possible. They will provide you with all the information necessary to prepare your child for surgery, including what to expect during surgery, right afterward and while your child is on the road to recovery.
Following surgery, your child will be transported to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), where a nurse will take vital signs, such as blood pressure, breathing and heart rates. Your child will be monitored continuously until he or she is awake enough to return to the outpatient area or a hospital room in the Pediatric Department. Every attempt will be made to keep your child as comfortable and as pain-free as possible.
Because we recognize that the presence of parents is critically important to a child’s recovery, our visitation policy allows parents to be there as their child awaken from anesthesia in the PACU. Once you are called into the PACU, your presence can boost your child’s recovery time. That is why it is important that you do not leave your child’s bedside in the PACU. The PACU nurse will instruct you on what you can do to help your child recover and will gladly answer any questions.
Due to space limitations and consideration for other parents, visitation is restricted to one parent or legal guardian per child in the PACU. Please decide in advance who will stay with the child. To minimize disruption, one parent should remain with the child throughout his/her entire stay in the PACU. Please instruct all family members and friends to remain in the waiting room.
