Conditions and injuries treated in sports medicine

Some of the conditions treated include:

Ankle pain

Sprains of the ligaments and tendons of the joint are the most common causes of ankle pain. At White Plains Hospital Center for Orthopedic & Spine Surgery, we treat many ankle conditions and injuries, such as:

  • Tendonitis

Hip problems

Bone fractures and labral tears of cartilage are among the common causes of hip pain. At White Plains Hospital Center for Orthopedic & Spine Surgery, we perform many procedures to treat hip injuries, such as:

  • Hip arthroscopy to treat bone spurs
  • Hip replacement if needed for conditions including arthritis
  • Labrum tears
  • Cartilage injuries
  • Tendon injuries

Knee problems

Fractures, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and tendon tears are common causes of knee pain. White Plains Hospital Center for Orthopedic & Spine Surgery employs a comprehensive team approach to knee injuries—from preoperative testing to pain management.

We treat many knee conditions and injuries, such as:

  • ACL injuries
  • Knee dislocations

And we perform many surgical knee procedures, including:

Shoulder pain

Arthroscopic surgical repair

During arthroscopy, a small camera called an arthroscope is inserted into a joint through a small incision in the skin. Viewing magnified images, the surgeon is able to look at the joint surfaces and the surrounding soft tissues such as the ligaments and cartilage. Arthroscopy can be used to diagnose or repair a joint problem, remove a loose or foreign body, or monitor a disease or the effectiveness of a treatment. Arthroscopy is commonly performed on the knee, shoulder and ankle and can also be done on the hip, elbow and wrist.

Because it is minimally invasive, arthroscopic surgery offers patients many benefits, including smaller incisions, less scaring, no cutting of muscles or tendons, and less bleeding during surgery, ultimately leading to a more comfortable rehabilitation and faster recovery.
