The Sleep Center at White Plains Hospital offers the most advanced sleep diagnostic services and specializes in adult and pediatric sleep disorders, including sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition experienced by over 18 million Americans. Sleep apnea is largely undiagnosed, with only 10% of people with the condition being treated.
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. During an apnea episode, the throat closes or the airway collapses, resulting in lower levels of oxygen to the brain. Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders affect the body and brain and can have serious long-term consequences.
The Sleep Center at the Hospital provides overnight sleep studies to test for sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. It offers state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, comfortable private rooms with flat screen TV, caring and credentialed staff, and complimentary parking. The sleep center also offers special diagnostic testing facilities for children, who also can suffer from sleep apnea.
Alerting our sleep apnea patients
Philips has recalled certain continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), bi-level positive airway pressure (BiLevel PAP) and mechanical ventilator devices due to concerns over health risks with the sound abatement foam. If you are using one of these products, please visit the Philips website for next steps and more information.

What to expect
You will arrive at the sleep center for your sleep study between 8 and 9 p.m. and spend the night in a private bedroom in the sleep lab. A member of our accredited staff will monitor your sleep patterns, breathing abnormalities, EKG, oxygen saturation, and muscle tone. The sleep study will also test your response to treatment modalities for sleep apnea such as Positive Airway Pressure. The test is monitored by technicians throughout the night and your results are then analyzed by a physician who will provide a report for your personal physician.
Your referring physician will receive a full report from the sleep center on the results of the study. He or she will then discuss sleep apnea treatment options with you. Sleep apnea treatments include lifestyle changes, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure - a device worn at night to keep the airway open) or surgery. Other sleep disorders can be treated with drug therapy.
