On January 1, 2021, Montefiore’s contract with UnitedHealthcare expired, putting Montefiore Hospitals including White Plains Hospital and its physicians at Scarsdale Medical Group and White Plains Hospital Physician Associates (WPHPA) out-of-network, and leaving you without access to the doctors and hospital you know and trust.
Despite Montefiore’s best efforts to negotiate in good faith since July to prevent this from impacting our patients, United has stopped negotiating.
HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO KEEP YOUR DOCTOR & HOSPITAL:
- CALL OUR INSURANCE ADVISORY TEAM AND ASK ABOUT YOUR OPTIONS
While we are currently out-of-network with UnitedHealthcare, you still may be able to receive care at White Plains Hospital and our physicians’ practices. Call 1-855-KEEPWPH to learn about your options.
- ASK YOUR EMPLOYER TO SWITCH YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE
Ask your HR Manager to provide another insurance option and share how important it is for you to be able to get care from the doctors you trust at White Plains Hospital, White Plains Hospital Physician Associates and Scarsdale Medical Group. You can customize this letter to send to your HR Manager encouraging them to switch.
- OTHER LOCAL COMPANIES HAVE ALREADY SWITCHED
Many employers have already switched to a new insurer to restore their employees’ in-network access to the doctors and hospital they know and trust. Below are just a few examples of local employers who have changed carriers, or offered a second insurance option to their employees:
- Scarsdale School District
- Mercy College
- Hyperlink USA
- Howard Hanna | Rand Realty
- Active International
In a recent blog post, Rick Pollack, the President and CEO of the American Hospital Association said:
“United’s enrollees deserve better. They entrust billions of dollars each year in the company’s hands with the expectation that their hard-earned dollars will be there for them when they need it. They deserve to have their care paid for and to have the choice of providers they were promised when they purchased their coverage. They deserve to not have their health insurer undermine their quality of their care.”

REMEMBER, you can always use the White Plains Hospital Emergency Department in the event of an emergency - find out the facts here. Additionally, patients who are pregnant or undergoing treatment for a chronic condition can apply for Continuity of Care. Call the customer service number on the back of your United health insurance card to request an application and then call your physician.
